Plastic Surgery is traditionally separated into two major types: Cosmetic Surgery, which involves improving the appearance and beauty of an individual; and reconstructive Surgery, which corrects disfigurement caused by birth defects. These two specialisations are inextricably linked as all Reconstructive Surgery aims to recreate a patient's body surface, i.e. their outward appearance. So-called Cosmetic Surgery can only be practiced by experienced Surgeons with training in reconstructive Surgery. At the Clinique Générale-Beaulieu all the Surgeons practising Cosmetic Surgery (7 in all) are fully qualified as both cosmetic and reconstructive Surgeons.
Clinique Générale-Beaulieu is the only private institution in Switzerland where university lecturers (Professors and visiting lecturers) regularly operate on their patients. Various Surgeons and a renowned Maxillofacial Surgeon often collaborate here. Each year a post-graduate course is held on a specific subject at the Clinique Générale-Beaulieu.
