Urology has always been afforded a place of honour at Clinique Générale-Beaulieu. At the former Beaulieu and Générale Clinics suitable facilities were reserved for this speciality.
It was not long before urology employed endoscopic instruments. Endoscopic resection, the "gold standard" for prostate operations, is performed several times a week in a room at the Clinic reserved solely for the practise of Urology. Here, thanks to our anaesthetists' skill and the quality of our post-operative care, this operation is performed in perfect safety and with outstanding results after a brief hospitalisation on male patients. It must be noted that the age of the men on whom this operation can be performed has been rising steadily over the years.
These endoscopic operations take place on a very special operating table, the SIEMENS LITHOSTAR, a remarkable machine that breaks up bladder stones. The table is multi-functional: besides destroying bladder stones with extra-corporeal shock waves, it can perform all urological endoscopic procedures in combination with radiological imaging that uses cameras and TV monitors. Thanks to an instrument placed in contact with the stone, the LITHOCLAST is also capable of breaking up bladder stones "in situ", if necessary.
With the help of the LITHOSTAR, the Clinic and its Urologists have established a unique relationship with the Cantonal Hospital. In addition, each Tuesdays, urologists from the University Hospital of Geneva have a chance to use the Clinic’s facilities for their own patients. Our outstanding facilities are thus used to their full potential, as both public and private medicine co-operate here, an experience that has also engendered support among many radiologists.
Urology involves more than “just” endoscopic procedures. Surgery still plays an important role. And here too, Générale-Beaulieu shines: except for kidney transplants, all urological operations can be performed at the Clinic.
